New TPDs Announced for Core and Higher GA/OA Psychiatry
Dr Sheena Patel
Hello! I wanted to introduce myself to as many as possible in my role as one of the new Core TPDs alongside Dr Katherine Worlley and Dr Mark Ashraph. I am going to be taking over from Dr Sukh Bahia and I am very much looking forward to working alongside a new group of colleagues and getting to know the core trainees.
I am a consultant forensic psychiatrist in Broadmoor and will be stepping down from my role as Local College Tutor there. In these roles I have gotten to know a number of the core trainees already and very much enjoyed supporting the rotating group of CTs from both the London and Thames Valley Deanery.
I am an extremely keen clinician and prioritise patient care, safety and treatment and I really strive to advocate and support their recovery. I have recently taken on co-lead for the ECT clinic in Broadmoor, another part of clinical work which I really enjoy. But it is safe to say, the most fulfilling part of my job has been teaching, training and supervising both core and higher trainees, partly because I myself continue to learn every day from those that I supervise and am grateful for the expertise and new perspective that they can bring to patient care.
It is for these reasons that I strive to champion for trainees and wish to support each trainee in carving out their careers and making the most of their training opportunities as a TPD. I do know that training comes with its own challenges, and I firmly support trainee health and wellbeing too. My view is that soon enough you will too be consultants, and a positive training experience for you will lead to a future bunch of caring and excellent psychiatrists and trainers.
For those working in Broadmoor, do pop into my office to say hello, my door is always open. There is usually a pile of snacks on my desk (some of which I may have baked myself), classical music in the background and a friendly ear to chat about whatever takes your interest.
