Research

West London NHS Trust and CNWL encourage research activity across all clinical pathways.  Young people’s mental health, integrated care e.g., the intersection of physical and mental health, identifying and reducing health inequalities, using big data in an agile and meaningful way are key areas where research opportunities exist in the trusts. WLNT and CNWL are also particularly keen to grow truly co-produced (with patients, staff) research projects.

There are a range of opportunities to fit different trainee’s interests from a few weeks to more than a year.

Up to 2 sessions per week can be used working in research projects in pathways linked to higher trainees’ longer term career choices.

In West London, there is the opportunity for a 12-month post with around a 50:50 split between research and clinical. The research component is out-of-programme research (OOPR, applied for in advance), with the potential to extend beyond 12 months.

There are also opportunities for interested and motivated trainees to pursue out of programme opportunities for research fellowships (this is also OOPR, applied for in advance)

Interested trainees may learn skills such as conducting rating scales or interview schedules, how to become a Principal Investigator, co-author on a systematic review or get involved in setting up or recruiting to a research project. We will support and encourage links with academic groups, such as:   Division of Psychiatry, and separately, the Patient Safety Translational Centre, both at Imperial College, London; CIPPRes Clinic at St. Charles Hospital, CNWL NHS Foundation Trust; NIHR Applied Research Collaboration hosted by Chelsea & Westminster NHS Foundation Trust and Imperial College, London.

Trainees based in CNWL would be welcome to do their special interest sessions in WLNT and vice versa.

Both Trusts have research directors who can help advise and support you.
