Quality Improvement

Quality Improvement (QI) has become a crucial part of services and training. As a trainee you will be very well supported and encouraged to get involved in Quality Improvement. We offer a trainee-specific programme of teaching and support so you can make the most of your QI experience whilst training.

Both West London NHS Trust and CNWL have established QI departments which are supported by a network of local QI service leads. They offer bespoke packages of training on QI methodology, with individual consultation, guidance and support via ‘QI clinics’ and supervision to develop and manage different types of QI projects. Trainees can be supported to complete QI projects whilst rotating around different jobs.

In both Trusts there are QI events and conferences, including a biannual trainee QI and audit event and a multidisciplinary event in West London NHS Trust. Trainees can have the opportunity to present their work, share learning and understand the wider landscape of QI work across the services they work in. Certificates and prizes are awarded at these events.

Many of our trainees have presented their QI work at national and international conferences.

The CNWL QI microsite is a useful resource to find out more on projects, support and training available - https://qi.cnwl.nhs.uk

At West London NHS Trust the Quality Improvement (QI) section of the Trust intranet provides a wealth of information on QI opportunities.
